Description
A galleon is crossing the ocean under full sail. This 24" by 18" oil painting is a depiction of an old world sailing ship making its way to the new world. The foreground is of ocean waves approaching the viewer. White caps are forming on top of many of the swells. The water is painted in thalo blue, thalo green, cerulean blue and white. Its a ruff and windy day and the horizon is not at all flat as with a calm sea. A large swell seems to be lifting the stern of the ship up and the bow is digging in and cutting cleanly through the water forming a white wake as it slides through the ocean waves. The boat is trimmed in gold paint and is being driven by the wind directly behind it. On the deck if you look closely you can see some sailors. Sea birds can be seen in the distance on both sides of the tall ship. On the distant horizon you can see the sails of a companion ship. The top two thirds of the canvas is painted a bright blue and white sky with thunder clouds passing over head. On top of the main mast there is a long flag blowing in the wind. The sails are painted in green , white, burnt umber, burnt sienna, blue, and a touch of yellow. The sails are casting shadows on each other from sunlight from upper right. What an adventure it must have been to have crossed the ocean in those days. This painting is copyrighted.
