Bass Harbor Rocks

Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
Two kids standing on the rocks near the Bass Harbor Head light. This painting was done on site on a warm summer day in August. In the foreground are granite boulders forming the shore line of the Maine coast. This is in the Acadia National Park. The two figures in the scene are my children Nick and Katie. This is a place they have come to know very well over the many years they have vacationed in Maine. The rocks are painted in burnt umber, burnt Siena cerulean blue, Paynes grey and white. On the right side of the painting at the top of the cliff are the beginnings of a pine forest that goes for miles. Peaking out from behind the pines is the famous Bass Harbor lighthouse. The scene gives way to a calm placid blue sea and a bright blue and white summer sky. The clouds are unthreatening and forecast a calm summer day ahead. Many a lobster man has set his or her traps just of this shore line over many, many years.

Hi Lee~~a beautiful oil painting to showcase the coast of Maine. The children playing adds terrific perspective and that's where I would of been at that age and even now when I get the chance!! F&L&Twt!

Fantastic work Lee! The rocks are just gorgeous with all the various shades and textures!! Such a beautiful and inviting scene! I think I would have loved to explore like the two boys if I were a kid there, but it really reminds me of my twin boys and how they used to explore together. The are 28 and one is married, but they still live together. Mostly I think to save money because there is another one of their buddies live and share rent with them as well, but to tell you the truth, I seriously doubt if they ever go anywhere without the other one going as well. Anyway, sorry to ramble, I love art that moves me and yours really does.. f/love!! :D
