Description
While I was in Maine a few years ago I went to the shore one morning and witnessed a scene like this one. It was just before sun up and the air was thick and a little foggy. In the foreground is a small boat with the anchor placed onto the rocky shore. The sails are down and there could be someone sleeping inside. Its a calm sea and the small waves are gently reflecting the colors of the boat. The middle distance rocks and cliffs are darker in value than the more distant much higher cliff with the pine trees on top because of the atmosphere. The water has a deep thalo blue quality and you can notice sea birds off in the distant horizon and above the hillside. The early sunrise has given the sky a pink color that turns to cerulean blue at the top of the painting. Scenes like this are all along the Maine coast. Its a great place to paint.
