Painting - Oil On Canvas
Description
This oil painting was done in the afternoon on location from the overlook at Eagle Harbor MI. in about two and a half hours. This is an oil on canvas of the Northern Michigan Eagle Harbor lighthouse on Lake Superior. The foreground of the scene is of the black rocks at the shore line below the lighthouse. The rocks are highlighted with light blue to reflect the sky. The water is very calm and placid with the dark rocks reflecting into it. The hill leading up to the lighthouse is covered with thick tall grass and bushes. A birch tree frames the right side of the painting and open water is on the left. The foreground is deeply shaded. At the top of the hill stands the red brick lighthouse and white tower drenched in late afternoon sunlight. The house has a lot of contrast between the shaded parts and the sunlit parts. You can see the shadow of the chimney being cast down the side of the roof. Behind the lighthouse and small pine trees on the hill is a large bay with purple mountains on the distant shore. A storm is brewing over the mountains with thunder clouds and a hint of rain below. Many a freighter ship has certainly used this old lighthouse as a navigation point throughout the years. This painting was done onsite and is protected by copyright.
