Description
This is an oil painting of a small fishing boat making its way back to shore and away from some pretty serious weather coming from the east. It's destination is Bass Harbor Maine on Mount Desert Island in the Acadia National park. Lobster, crab, and herring are a fisherman's life in this part of the world. A storm like this one could set a guy back a few days in income. The wind is picking up and the boat is starting to cut through the water at a faster speed as shown by the white water at the bow. The sails are full and you can see the flag at the top of the mast blowing almost straight out in the strong wind. The water is painted in a dark blue green, to give the ocean a forbidding look. This crew will make it back to fish another day. In days gone by it was the wind and a captains good judgment that kept a crew out of harms way. Motors and radio were still off in the future.
