Description
A small sailing ship trying to escape the weather. Dark and stormy clouds over a dark forbidding ocean. The vastness of the sea is depicted in this lonely scene of a fishing boat trying to outrun a thunder storm on the distant horizon to the right . Thunder heads rising miles into the sky are highlighted by the morning sunlight coming from the left side of the oil painting. The wind from the storm is churning up the ocean and creating white cap waves and is helping to push the boat away. The water in the foreground is of a dark burnt umber and thalo blue. You can see the ship's hull creating white water as it slides through the water at a high rate of speed. The bright blue sky above the clouds indicates that the storm will pass and a good day is at hand. For now though getting to harbor and out of danger is all that matters. This painting is protected by copy right.

Another great painting, Lee. Although definitely not a raft, it reminds of the Kon-Tiki, in which the Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl, sailed from Peru to the South Pacific in 1947, following the Humboldt Current, to see if the early Polynesian settlers might have done so. A like and a favorite.
