This painting was done on location in the afternoon in about three hours. The old Hillsdale Michigan Fairgrounds Merchants Hall in a summer setting. This building is one of the oldest of its kind anywhere. The merchants hall is shaded by huge oak and maple trees in the foreground. The trees cast shadows on the building itself. Bright sunlit areas contrast with the shadows on the barn. The grassy foreground is punctuated with sunny blotches of lawn. The dark shaded area in the near foreground helps focus attention on the building itself. A powder blue sky hovers over the building to indicate a summer afternoon. There are flowers and plantings at the bass of the building. The building has a weathered look with the rich dark shadows of the cracks in the white paint. The sign Merchants Hall can be clearly seen over the entrance of the building. Also the date the building was constructed is at the very peak. Protected by copyright.
I have been an oil painter my entire life. Many of the paintings that I do are sentimental rural settings. I also like to paint landmarks and paintings that tell a story like "Surprise Visit". My paintings have won first place in a lot of competitions and many times have been sold that way. To me there is no more satisfying experience than to complete a painting and be happy with the outcome. The next best thing is to have someone buy it! I hope you enjoy looking at my paintings and I welcome your comments. I will personalize a print once you have kept it for the duration of the 30 days. You must pay the shipping to and from me. Our return policy is very simple: If you're not happy for any reason, you can return it to us within 30...
