Description
Sunset at Bass Harbor Head light is to me a beautiful thing to paint or photograph. This scene is painted from the rocky granite shore just below the lighthouse. Its a calm windless summer evening and the ocean has calm seas. The tide is out and I could get down and away form the lighthouse to get a wider perspective. The foreground is painted in alizarin crimson, burnt umber and blue mixed with white for the highlights. The silhouette of the lighthouse and the distant pine trees are jutting out of the hill top. The light in the tower glows red and you can hear the buoy bells and sea birds. The ocean water reflects the brilliant orange, red yellow, and crimson sky. There is the hint of distant hills coming up from the far horizon. The diesel engines of the lobster boats can be heard coming back into the harbor. The Maine coast offers endless opportunities for a painter and Acadia National Park offers some of the best of the Maine coast. This painting is protected by copyright.
