This oil painting was done on location in the late afternoon. View from the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona. A panoramic view of the depth and breadth of the grand canyon with the sun casting shadows into the abyss below. In the foreground is an old scrub pine near the cliff with a large vertical rock frameing the left side of the painting to add dimension and depth. The distant horizon becons. A powder blue haze blankets the distant buttes and as the rock formations get closer they become more defined. The silence of the canyon is complete with only the sound of the wind and the birds. This soutnwestern landscape captures the huge scale of the grand canyon. The canyon is a wonder of nature, giving us a glimps into the past and what time and weather can do to the land. The scale of the canyon is hard for the viewer to grasp. Time of day and weather give the canyon an ever changing mood. This painting is protected by copyright.
